Key international Yankees signings

The Yankees biggest prize today was Osiel Rodriguez, a 16 year-old Cuban right-hander whose fastball already touches 96 MPH. At age 16, that's pretty damned amazing. Rodriguez is the #5-rated international prospect, and rumors have been connecting him to the Yankees for months. Under ML rules, they could not sign him until he turned 16.

Another signing of note is Rafael Severino, Luis' 19 year-old kid brother. He's a skinny kid whose fastball only sits at around 89-90, but Luis wasn't throwing much harder than that at 19, and Rafael could reach the mid-90's if he fills out the way Luis did. His curve and change are above average and he'll be pitching at the Dominican Summer Academy.

In any case, the Yankees seem back to loading up on pitchers.
If you don't know where you're going, you might wind up somewhere else.
