Always liked Mack Hollins FWIW. Assumed he would be a career Fast Special Teams Guy/4th WR. Could still have that career. This year was weird. #Eagles #Dolphins

Dolphins Sign Evan Brown, Awarded Mack Hollins
https://www.miamidolphins.com/news/dolphins-sign-evan-brown-awarded-mack-hollins

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed center Evan Brown off the N.Y. Giants practice squad and were awarded wide receiver Mack Hollins off waivers from Philadelphia.

The team waived/injured cornerback Ken Crawley and waived center/guard Chris Reed.

Brown made his NFL debut on Nov. 10, 2019 as a member of the Giants but has spent the majority of the season on the team’s practice squad.

He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Giants on May 11, 2018 and was on the team’s active roster for the entire season but did not appear in a game. Brown played collegiately at Southern Methodist University.

Hollins has played in 28 NFL games with three starts over two seasons (2017, 2019) with Philadelphia. He has totaled 26 career receptions for 351 yards (13.5 avg.) and one touchdown.

He missed the entire 2018 season on injured reserve. Hollins originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick (118th overall) in the 2017 NFL draft.

Crawley played in four games with two starts for the Dolphins this season. He was acquired off waivers from New Orleans on Oct. 30, 2019. He also spent three-plus seasons (2016-19) with the Saints.

In his career, Crawley has totaled 43 games played, 25 starts, 134 tackles (121 solo), one interception and 31 passes defensed. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with New Orleans on May 9, 2016.

Reed has played in five games with one start for Miami in 2019. He joined the team as a free agent signing on March 18, 2019.

Reed has played in 30 career games with nine starts after spending parts of three seasons (2016-18) with Jacksonville.

He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Jaguars on May 8, 2015.

Another big and fast WR.

I'm beginning to see a trend.

WR Mack Hollins
6'4" Height
33 1/4" Arm Length
221 LBS. Weight
9 3/4" Hands

4.53 SEC 40 YD DASH

Overview
Hollins owned a python and boa during high school and bred African Cichlid fish -- a hobby most college football players wouldn't consider.

Before he set up his exotic pet store, however, he'll need to take a shot at becoming an NFL receiver.

Hollins signed with Fork Union Military Academy out of high school, not because of grades or off-field issues, but because he wanted to be noticed by more schools in the recruiting process.

It worked.

He redshirted in Chapel Hill as a walk-on in 2012, then contributed on special teams (nine tackles) the following year, nearly leaving because he didn't yet have a scholarship.

That changed soon, as Hollins garnered honorable mention All-ACC notice despite not starting a game as a sophomore (35-613, eight TD).

He was a third-team all-conference pick in 2015, starting five of the last six contests (30-745, 24.8 per reception, eight TD).

Unfortunately, he couldn't explode into the football stratosphere during his senior year due to a collarbone injury that required surgery (16-309, four TD in seven games).

Analysis
Strengths
Will have a team drooling over his size and speed.

Propels himself down the field with smooth, long strides.

Chomps up cushion and glides past corners and safeties before they know what hit them.

Legitimate vertical threat who finished with 20 touchdowns on just 71 catches.

Dangerous run-after-catch ability in on deep crossing routes and slants.

Former walk-on who still has a desire to do whatever it takes.

Special teams captain all four years at school.

Had 20 special teams tackles over his first three seasons and offers punt and kick cover value on special teams.

Weaknesses
Played less than 50 percent of the offensive snaps in every season. Primarily used to stretch the field and doesn't have experience with a variety of routes.

Still very raw.

One speed route-runner who wins with just speed. Routes need more purpose. Not a natural hands catcher.

Never produced more than 35 catches in a single season.

Play strength through his patterns is below average and he can be re-routed.

Leggy in underneath work and can be slow in and out of his breaks. Stalk-blocker who needs to give much better effort in run game.

Sources Tell Us
"What's strange is this kid is tall and fast so I don't know why he would have been so under recruited. I don't know if he will ever be more than a deep threat and cover guy but those kinds of players make teams." - AFC East scout

Bottom Line
Hollins has four things that teams will look for on Day 3 of the draft -- height, weight, speed and special teams ability.

Taller receivers usually need a longer runway for their build-up speed, but Hollins appears to be able to access his top gear relatively early which makes him such a dangerous deep threat considering his above average height.

Hollins' ability to cover both punts and kicks should give him early work as he continues to learn the receiver position. Hollins has WR3 potential.

I knew they’d go after this guy. More penalty yards than receiving yards.

Dolphins claim former Seahawks cornerback Linden Stephens
By Omar Kelly
South Florida Sun Sentinel |

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/fl-sp-dolphins-linden-stephens-20191207-l76725fsvzbunlffcj6oamwwhe-story.html

The Miami Dolphins added a sixth youngster to the team this week when cornerback Linden Stephens was signed off Seattle’s practice squad.

Stephens has bounced around the NFL quite a bit his rookie season.

He initially signed with the New Orleans Saints this summer as an undrafted rookie coming out of the University of Cincinnati, where he recorded 140 tackles, six interceptions, forced a fumble and has 20 pass breakups in his 44 games.

Stephens had brief stints with the Rams and Broncos before the Seahawks signed him to their practice squad a few months ago.

The Dolphins signed him on Friday and he’ll conclude the season on Miami’s 53-man roster, which is a requirement for the practice squad players signed this late in the season.

Players poached from another NFL team’s practice squad must spend four weeks with their new team.

The signing of Stephens, 24, hasn’t been made official yet.

The Dolphins must release, or place a player on injured reserve to create a roster spot for him.

Because Stephens hasn’t practice all week it’s unlikely that he’ll play in Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.

Stephens becomes the sixth newcomer added to the Dolphins roster this week.

Miami signed defensive tackle Zach Sieler off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens.

Offensive lineman Evan Brown was signed off the New York Giants practice squad, while running back Zach Zenner and receivers Mack Hollins and Trevor Davis were claimed off waivers.

The Dolphins have waived offensive tackle Isaiah Prince, rookie safety Montre Hartage, cornerback Ken Crawley and offensive lineman Chris Reed, and placed running back Kalen Ballage on injured reserve this week to make room for all the newcomers.

Hartage re-joined the Dolphins practice squad on Thursday.
